
International Medical Graduates who are not eligible under the Competent Authority or Specialist pathways may be assessed and registered via the Standard pathway.
On 1 July 2008, successful completion of the AMC Multiple Choice (MCQ) Exam became a prerequisite for registration via the Standard pathway.

TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS: IMGs already registered and working on 1 July 2008
IMGs who were already registered and working on 1 July 2008 NOT required to sit the Australian Medical Council MCQ exam for the purpose of continuing their registration in the same role/location or if they are continuing in the same role at a new location within the same network or in another network. Renewal of registration is subject to satisfactory performance.
IMGs already registered and working in NSW on 1 July 2008 who apply to transfer to a new position may be required to provide evidence that they have satisfactorily completed the MCQ exam as part of their application for registration in the new position if the new position is substantively different to their current position. Renewal of registration is also subject to satisfactory performance.

TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS: International Medical Graduates who applied for registration prior to 1 July 2008
IMGs who completed Stage 1 of their registration application according to the Board's requirements prior to 1 July 2008 and commence employment from 1 September 2008 onwards, are required to provide evidence that they have satisfactorily completed the MCQ exam prior to registration being granted.
