Under the provisions of the Medical Practice Act, all medical students in NSW must be registered as a prerequisite to undertaking a course of study at a medical school in the State.
Registration occurs automatically on initial enrolment and is updated annually by the University. The Student Register contains details of name, address, medical school and year of study. No fee is charged for student registration.
The primary objective of student registration is public protection in relation to Impaired students. A clear, secondary objective is ensuring that impaired students' transition into the medical workforce is assisted.
The Board plays no direct role in the academic progress or discipline of medical students.
